How it works & supported files

Mirror your image

Horizontal swaps left and right; vertical swaps top and bottom. Both mirrors both axes. Source dimensions and transparent areas are retained unless you choose JPEG.

Static images, processed on your device

Supports static PNG, 8-bit grayscale/RGB JPEG, and static WebP as listed by this tool. Animation, SVG, HEIC, AVIF, and CMYK JPEG are not supported. EXIF orientation is applied before editing. Re-encoding removes source metadata and color profiles, can change colors, and reduces high-bit-depth images to browser canvas output. JPEG and WebP output may change pixels. For transparency, choose PNG or WebP. Outputs are limited to 100 MiB.

About this tool

Flip image mirrors a picture horizontally, vertically, or across both axes. It is a quick fix for photos taken with a selfie camera or scans that came out reversed.

The flip is applied to a locally decoded copy with EXIF orientation handled first, so the result matches the orientation you see. The original file is not modified.

How to use it

  1. Choose the image.
  2. Select horizontal, vertical, or both axes.
  3. Check the preview to confirm the direction.
  4. Download the flipped image.

Worked example

A horizontal flip mirrors left and right, as in a selfie camera preview. A vertical flip mirrors top and bottom, as in a reflection in water. Flipping both ways gives the same result as a 180° rotation. The dimensions stay the same in every case, and transparent areas stay transparent unless you choose JPEG output.

When to flip

Front-facing cameras often save mirrored selfies, so text on clothing or signs reads backwards. A horizontal flip fixes that. Designers also flip product photos or portraits so the subject faces into a layout rather than off the page, and flip images for print transfers such as iron-on designs, which must be printed mirrored.

Take care with images containing text, logos, or recognisable landmarks. A mirrored photo can look subtly wrong to anyone who knows the original.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between flipping and rotating?

Flipping mirrors the image across an axis, reversing it like a reflection. Rotating turns it without mirroring.

Does flipping affect image quality?

The pixel grid is preserved, but saving re-encodes the file, which removes metadata and can slightly change compression.

Are animated images supported?

No. Only static PNG, JPEG, and WebP images are supported.
