How it works & useful details

A PNG, ready for anywhere

Choose a static WebP image, convert it, and download a PNG at its original dimensions. Transparent areas remain transparent.

Good to know

Animated WebP isn’t supported. PNG files can be larger than WebP. This tool preserves the decoded image; it does not restore detail lost in the original or preserve source metadata and color profiles.

About this tool

WebP to PNG converts a static WebP image to PNG while keeping its dimensions and transparent background. It is the right choice when you need a lossless, widely editable file from a WebP source.

The decode and re-encode happen locally in a worker. The result is larger than the WebP in most cases because PNG stores pixels losslessly.

How to use it

  1. Choose the static WebP image.
  2. Confirm the detected format and dimensions.
  3. Run the conversion.
  4. Download the PNG file.

What the conversion does

The WebP is decoded and stored as a lossless PNG at the same dimensions, with transparent areas kept transparent. From then on, editing and re-saving the PNG adds no further quality loss, which makes it a safe working format for design tools.

Expect the file to be larger, often considerably, especially for photos. PNG stores every pixel exactly, while WebP was chosen by the website for its small size. The conversion cannot restore detail lost when the WebP was created.

When to choose PNG over JPG

  • The image has transparency, such as logos, icons, and stickers.
  • It contains text, UI elements, or sharp lines that JPEG would blur.
  • You will edit it further and want to avoid repeated lossy saves.
  • The destination software does not accept WebP but does accept PNG.

For ordinary photos where size matters, WebP to JPG gives a much smaller file.

Frequently asked questions

Does the PNG keep transparency?

Yes. PNG supports an alpha channel, so transparent areas are preserved.

Can the conversion recover detail the WebP lost?

No. Lossy WebP compression discards detail permanently; PNG preserves whatever pixels remain.

Are animated WebP files supported?

No. Only static WebP images are converted.
